Turn Your Android Phone into A Gameboy

For all you Nostalgia lovers out there.. Have you been missing the Gameboy?

Perhaps, you want to give that classic Pokemon Red another go. Or maybe some Metroid, Tetris even? But your old Gameboy, is amongst all your old games and toys in the attic somewhere. Or maybe its no longer working or you made the decision (which you regret now) to sell your unwanted Gameboy?

Okay get to the point already!

Well..A company called Hyperkin have built the Smartboy Development Kit. Which turns your android phone, into a Gameboy.

The Classic..

You simply insert your Android phone, which is compatible with screens between 5-6 inches. Into the Smartboy, insert your old Gameboy cartridges in the back, like you would in the original Gameboy. Then boom, start playing your classic games, like you did when you were a kid.

The kit will also work with any emulators that are currently on the market too, all you need to do is make sure you have the relevant roms to play the games. So now, you don’t need to play your Gameboy games on those cumbersome touch screens, and you also get the privilege to play these games on your high end smartphone screens. Lets not also forget, you don’t need to worry about stocking up on them double A batteries either.

Also as this is the development kit, Hyperkin have made the serial app and firmware open source. So any of you developers out there, who can improve the kit will have the opportunity do so. Hyperkin, will reward you for any improvements you can make on the system.

The Smartboy Development Kit, is being sold for $59.99 and is due to be released in December this year.

  1. Hey! I’ve read some of your posts and I really liked this and the Pokemon Go one. I think it would go really well with what we do on our site, Nowloading.co. Posts exactly like this is exactly what we’re looking for. Would cross posting to our site be something you’d be interested in?

If you’re interested, email me at dana@moviepilot.com I would love to get you started!

    Cheers,
